Inside his poem I found the answer
to my life’s vocational quest.
Of how to find peace
for a heart filled with pain,
how to ease suffering
and heal unhappy memory.
For years I explored these questions,
the journey was a long one,
yet here was one who knew mystery
and what glorious company he kept,
for in that moment,
I solved my innermost puzzle.
Upon each tree hung with light,
cosmic fruits of love sway
beneath psyche’s soulful stars.
Over hill and silent shining lake,
a midnight journey of wonder
lights up this imaginal world.
Where stone, wood and water
naturally release reveries
to trees, who push their roots
down into swaddled dreamers,
offering the glow of intuition
and transformational symbols.
for Elaine and Vic
Sitting on a fallen tree,
two hearts of gold smile at me
and all the world becomes a song,
as love and bird sing all day long.
Hush listen to their hearts a-flutter,
as memory moves to early summer
where May recalls her happy hour,
a dance amid pale yellow flowers!
And as I spy behind the oak
a pen falls from my poet’s cloak,
for never have I seen such love
that sits beside the tall foxglove!
And a voice spoke to me,
“the alphabet will be your lodestar”
and I woke from the dream enraged!
Why do his letters get to be so important?
Why can’t I paint or play music,
why can’t I sculpt clay or knit?
Why do those 26 letters
have to be my guiding star?
“Well,” said the soul,
“you can either come to them
squealing like a noisy pig,
or you can come to them with grace.”
All being well,
somewhere in the middle of life,
you will wake up aged
from a deep, dreamless sleep,
to go back on promises
and put right your life.
On this day
you will pack your bags,
leave your house,
leave your relationship,
leave the life you have set up,
ditch your tribe to find another.
It was in her ancestry,
the longing to tend and herd.
Being the daughter of a shepherd
she knew why Arcadia pulled her.
Knowing her family began there,
she longed to return to her spirit land,
to deep harmony and highlands,
a vision of unspoiled wilderness.
To restore a branch of her family tree
and move in peace upon its mountains.
Home may be where the heart is,
yet hiraeth was calling her soul home.
